Home > Status and Plans for Coastal Management Information System Project> Purpose of the Project

The coastal management information system project strives to manage the spatial resource of coastal areas more efficiently and in sustainable manners through collecting database such as coastal area data map, satellite imagery, a variety of coast-related information and compiling them into GIS system, which will help to establish a reliable, knowledge-based administrative support system.

The first stage of the project (¡¯99-¡¯03) focused on setting up the structure of the information system, and the second stage (¡¯04-¡¯08) has been pursuing to apply, disseminate, and refurbish the existing information system.

In case of the eighth-year project in 2006, the primary goal was to refurbish the existing information system to improve utilization, and to establish a ubiquitous, cyber coastal management model that allows better access to GIS data in real time. At the same time, building more systematic and reliable database to encourage data use was another goal, which was approached by accommodating customer needs in using the service. Scientific and knowledge-based coastal management support system was sought by constructing administrative support system necessary in setting up policies regarding coastal area, public waters and more.
